Documenting Collections

Stephanie Daniels and Kim Wurl organizing collections

The Illinois landscape has been home to people for over 10,000 years. While Native American camps and villages were once thickly spread across the state, today often only artifacts, such as stone tools, spearheads, and arrowheads, remain to mark these spots. Private artifact collections, made by farmers, collectors, and amateur archaeologists, can help fill gaps in the archaeological record.

If you or your family have field-collected artifacts from known locations and would be willing to have these collections documented, please contact us! ISAS archaeologists across the state can help you record these collections and share what we know about the artifacts you possess.

Below you can learn more about private collections that have been documented by ISAS.
