Recloseable polyethylene bags, minimum of 2 mil will be used. A separate tag printed on non-acidic paper listing the provenience will be enclosed in each bag.
All old labeling (such as from a paper bag) must be kept inside the same bag.
If materials are separated from their original bags, original bag fronts will be kept with rim sherds. The analyst will be careful to duplicate all provenience information onto tags for separated or sorted materials. This is best done with a spreadsheet such as Excel.
All rim sherds, decorated sherds, and projectile points and sandstone artifacts will be labeled with appropriate provenience information directly on the artifact. This will be done in the following manner:
• A bottom coat of B-72 dissolved in acetone BEFORE the artifact is labeled.
This may be either clear or tinted white when necessary.
• The label on each artifact will be done in black permanent ink.
Whole vessels, if found, will be labeled and packed in an ISAS curation box with Ethafoam® padding to prevent breakage.
All artifact bags will be placed into ISAS curation boxes. No box will weigh more than 35 pounds.
Documents will have the site number on each primary container (binder or folder), be well-organized, clearly dated, and labeled to indicate the project for which the materials were collected.
A copy of the Curation Agreement or Accession record will be kept with the field and analysis documents.
